You’re not looking for another weekend project. You want your flower beds and landscape areas to look clean, stay healthy, and stop demanding so much of your time.
That’s what proper mulch installation does. It suppresses weeds before they take over. It holds moisture in the soil during dry stretches so your plants don’t stress. It regulates temperature around roots when Fourth Lake summers heat up or early frosts hit.
Good mulching also breaks down slowly and feeds your soil with organic matter. That means healthier plants, less fertilizer, and better drainage over time. And when it’s done right, your property looks finished instead of patchy or overgrown.
We’ve been working in the Adirondack region since 1997. We started in logging, moved into full-time excavation in 2020, and now handle everything from site prep to landscape bed mulching across Fourth Lake and the surrounding area.
Josh is on nearly every job. That’s not a marketing line—it’s how we operate. When you hire us, you’re working with people who care about the outcome because our name is attached to it.
We’re not the biggest crew in the region, and we’re fine with that. What matters is that you get someone who finishes what they start and doesn’t disappear after the first invoice.
We start with a walkthrough of your property. You show us what needs mulching—flower beds, around trees, landscape borders, wherever you want coverage. We’ll look at what’s already there, whether old mulch needs removal, and what depth makes sense for your soil and plants.
Then we prep the area. That means pulling weeds, edging beds if needed, and clearing out any debris or old mulch that’s compacted or broken down. If your beds need reshaping or better definition, we handle that too.
After prep, we bring in quality mulch and spread it evenly to the right depth—usually two to three inches for most landscape applications. We keep it pulled back from plant stems and tree trunks to avoid rot. Everything gets raked smooth and cleaned up before we leave.
You’re left with beds that look sharp, soil that’s protected, and one less thing to worry about for the next year.

Our landscape bed mulching covers the full scope. We remove old, faded mulch if it’s compacted or past its useful life. We edge and define bed lines so everything looks intentional. We install fresh mulch at the proper depth for weed suppression and moisture retention.
In Fourth Lake, seasonal timing matters. Spring mulch installation helps soil warm up and protects new growth. Fall mulching insulates roots before winter and gives your property a clean look heading into the cold months.
We also handle mulch removal service when beds have built up too much material over the years. Mulch shouldn’t pile up against your home’s foundation or smother plant roots. If that’s happening, we strip it down and start fresh.
Whether it’s garden mulching for vegetable beds, decorative landscape mulching around your home, or large-area coverage for commercial properties, we bring the equipment and experience to do it efficiently. No trips to the hardware store for you. No sore knees or weekends lost to yard work.
Most properties benefit from new mulch every year, typically in late spring after the soil warms up. Mulch breaks down over time—it fades, compacts, and loses its ability to suppress weeds and hold moisture.
If your mulch still looks decent and you’re not seeing weeds push through, you can sometimes stretch it to 18 months. But if it’s thin, gray, or mostly decomposed, it’s time to refresh. That’s especially true in Fourth Lake where freeze-thaw cycles and heavy snow can break mulch down faster.
Annual mulching also keeps your property looking maintained. Faded mulch makes even a well-kept yard look neglected. Fresh mulch brings everything back to life without replanting or major work.
Mulch installation means we’re adding new material to your beds—either as a fresh layer over existing mulch or onto bare soil. Most jobs are straightforward installation where we spread two to three inches of new mulch after light prep work.
Mulch removal service is for situations where old mulch has built up too much over the years. If you’ve been adding new mulch annually without removing the old stuff, you can end up with four to six inches of compacted material. That creates problems: it holds too much moisture against your foundation, smothers plant roots, and creates habitat for pests.
In those cases, we strip out the old mulch down to soil level, haul it away, and then install fresh material at the correct depth. It’s more labor-intensive, but it solves problems that layering more mulch on top would only make worse.
Winter mulching is possible but not ideal. Frozen ground makes bed prep difficult, and snow cover means we can’t see what we’re working with. Most mulch suppliers also slow down or stop deliveries once the ground freezes.
Late fall is actually a great time for landscape mulching in Fourth Lake. You get the insulation benefits for your plant roots heading into winter, and the beds look clean through the cold months. Spring is the other peak time—once the ground thaws and before everything leafs out.
If you need mulching done outside those windows, call us and we’ll talk through what’s realistic. Some jobs can work in early winter if conditions cooperate. But for best results and efficiency, plan for spring or fall installation.
Not always. If your existing mulch is only a year or two old and hasn’t built up too thick, we can add a fresh layer on top after light raking. That’s the most common approach and keeps costs down.
But if old mulch is compacted, more than three inches deep, or creating a barrier that water can’t penetrate, removal makes sense. Same goes if it’s piled up against your house or tree trunks—that invites rot and pest problems.
We’ll assess your beds during the walkthrough and tell you what’s needed. Sometimes a partial removal in problem areas combined with fresh installation everywhere else is the right move. The goal is healthy soil and plants, not just piling on more material because that’s easier.
Hardwood mulch is the most common choice around Fourth Lake. It breaks down at a good pace, looks natural, and handles our climate well. Shredded hardwood stays in place better on slopes and doesn’t wash away as easily during heavy rain.
Cedar and pine mulches last longer because they decompose slower, but they also cost more. They’re worth it if you want to stretch time between refreshes or if you like the color and smell.
For vegetable gardens, untreated hardwood mulch or compost works better than dyed decorative mulch. You want something that breaks down into nutrients without chemicals. For landscape beds around your home, dyed mulch in brown or black holds its color longer and gives a more polished look.
We’ll talk through options based on what you’re mulching and what matters most to you—longevity, appearance, or cost.
Most residential mulching jobs in Fourth Lake run between $300 and $800, depending on how many beds you have, how much prep work is needed, and whether we’re doing straight installation or removal first. Larger properties or commercial landscape mulching projects can run higher.
Mulch itself costs $20 to $50 per cubic yard depending on type and quality. Labor and delivery add to that. If you need mulch removal service before installation, expect additional cost for the extra time and disposal.
We give clear, upfront estimates after seeing your property. No hidden fees or surprises. You’ll know exactly what the job costs before we start, and that number doesn’t change unless you ask us to do additional work.
