Land Clearing Process

Here's How We Clear Your Land

First, we walk your property with you to understand exactly what you need cleared and discuss any specific requirements for your project. We identify utilities, property lines, and any areas that need special attention.

Next, we bring in the right equipment for your specific job. We remove trees and vegetation, then handle the stumps and root systems that cause problems if left behind. All debris gets properly disposed of off-site.

Finally, we grade the cleared area according to your specifications. This includes establishing proper drainage and creating the level, stable surface your construction project requires. You get a site that’s ready for the next contractor to start work immediately.

We handle the grading work to establish proper drainage and create the level surface your project requires. Rocky soil conditions common in the West Glens Falls area get special attention to ensure proper site preparation.

All debris removal and disposal is included. You don’t have to worry about burn piles or finding somewhere to dump brush and stumps. We handle the complete cleanup, leaving you with a construction-ready site.

How long does it take to clear a typical residential lot?

Most residential lots in West Glens Falls take 2-4 days to clear completely, depending on the size and how heavily wooded the property is. A quarter-acre lot with moderate tree coverage usually takes about 2 days. Larger lots or properties with dense forest and difficult terrain can take up to a week. Weather conditions also affect timing – we can’t do final grading work in muddy conditions. We’ll give you a realistic timeline when we assess your specific property.
You’re responsible for obtaining any required permits from the town, but we can help you understand what’s typically needed for land clearing in West Glens Falls. We always call Dig Safe to mark utilities before starting any work – this is included in our service. If your property has septic systems, wells, or other underground infrastructure, make sure to point these out during our initial site visit. We’ll work around these areas carefully to avoid any damage.
All debris removal is included in our land clearing service. We haul away brush, logs, and stumps to appropriate disposal sites. Some of the larger logs may go to local mills if they’re suitable for lumber. Brush and smaller material gets properly disposed of at approved sites. You don’t have to worry about burn piles or finding places to dump material. We leave your property clean and ready for construction with no debris piles to deal with.
We can do tree removal and brush clearing during winter months, and sometimes it’s actually easier to access wooded areas when the ground is frozen. However, final grading and site preparation work has to wait until spring when the ground thaws and dries out. Trying to do finish grading on frozen or muddy ground creates more problems than it solves. If you need winter clearing, we can remove the vegetation and handle final site prep when conditions are right.
We grind stumps at least 12 inches below the final grade level, which is deep enough for most construction projects. If you’re planning a basement or need deeper excavation, let us know during the planning phase so we can grind stumps deeper or remove them completely. Surface roots also get cleared in areas where you’ll be building. The goal is to make sure no wood debris interferes with your foundation work or causes settling problems later.
Tree removal just takes down the trees and maybe cuts them up. Land clearing is complete site preparation for construction. This means we remove trees, grind stumps below grade, clear all brush and debris, and do the grading work to create a level, properly drained building site. We also remove rocks and roots that would interfere with construction. When we’re done with land clearing, your site is ready for the foundation contractor to start work immediately.
